No packet loss in a wired connection should be considered normal. Packet loss tells you there is a physical issue somewhere, whether it be a bad cable, bad optic, or a link somewhere in your path that is saturated. I guess that it's buffer overload causing drops. Fiber should ping forever without any drops I'd the hardware on both ends is stable.
