How to program direct tv remote

I bought a new Hisense tv which is used with the HR34. When I try to program the remote to run the TV the instructions displayed are for older remotes with the 4 position switch on the top (Directv, AV1, AV2, TV) which of course the RC73 doesn't have. I tried programming using the codes displayed but always got red flashes on the remote.
